AAOE and AAOS’ Registry Program Collaborate to Improve Data Collection

The American Association of Orthopaedic Executives (AAOE) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) have come together with AAOE Empower and the AAOS Registry Program to benefit orthopedic surgeons and practicing sites. The collaboration will allow AAOE to support orthopedic practice executives with submitting their data to AAOS Registries in a streamlined fashion to reuse their AAOE Empower data. 
 
“The collaboration between AAOE Empower and the AAOS Registry Program greatly enhances the data collection, reporting, and benchmarking capabilities available to orthopedic surgeons and practice executives and supports the growth and success of orthopedic practices in the current health care environment,” said Sam Santschi, J.D., CMPE, president of AAOE 2020-2021 Board of Directors and practice administrator at Diana L. Kruse, M.D. “I am thrilled to announce this collaboration and look forward to the new insights and education that will be generated as a result.”
 
AAOE Empower includes a powerful survey platform that allows orthopedic practices and providers to capture patient-reported outcome and satisfaction data via email or text message and use benchmarking data and reports for quality improvement and strategic decision making. AAOE Empower features connections with electronic health records, practice management systems, and survey vendors to provide an efficient data collection experience. Results from the annual AAOE Benchmarking Survey, which collects data on the business side of orthopedics, are also housed in the AAOE Empower platform. The integration of operational data and patient-centered metrics allows for advanced insights not available in other systems.
 
The mission of the AAOS Registry Program is to improve orthopedic care through the collection, analysis, and reporting of actionable data. It seeks to encompass all the musculoskeletal and anatomical areas for orthopedics through comprehensive data and technology resulting in optimal patient outcomes. The AAOS Registry program include the American Joint Replacement Registry, the Shoulder & Elbow Registry, the Musculoskeletal Tumor Registry, the American Spine Registry, a collaboration with the American Association of Neurological Surgeons  and AAOS, and the recently announced Fracture & Trauma Registry. The AAOS registries and the collaborative ASR are part of a CMS-approved Qualified Clinical Data Registries (QCDR) and provide flexible data collection options to help orthopaedic providers meet their reporting requirements for a variety of programs such as the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Quality Payment Program (QPP) and Promoting Interoperability (PI). By having AAOE support its Empower users, taking advantage of AAOS Registry Program benefits is easier than ever.
